Paul George is not giving up on his dream of bringing a championship to Los Angeles. The Clippers star recently hinted at some exciting new plans for the team next season, which could include a return of the iconic red jerseys, a revamped roster, and a healthy Kawhi Leonard.
George made the intriguing comments during an Instagram Live session with rapper and Clippers fan YG, who asked him about the team’s future. George said he had a lot of ideas and suggestions for the Clippers, but he couldn’t reveal them yet. He did, however, drop a few hints that got fans buzzing.
One of the hints was about the Clippers’ jerseys, which have been criticized by some fans for being bland and boring. George said he wanted to bring back the red jerseys, which the Clippers wore from 2000 to 2010 and featured a cursive script and a wave design. He said the red jerseys were his favorite and that he had talked to the team’s owner, Steve Ballmer, about them.
Another hint was about the Clippers’ roster, which George said he wanted to improve and add more depth. He said he had a list of players he wanted to play with and that he was going to try to recruit them to join the Clippers. He didn’t name any names, but he said he was looking for players who could complement him and Leonard and help them win.
The most important hint, however, was about Leonard’s health. Leonard, who is the Clippers’ best player and co-star with George, suffered a partially torn ACL in the playoffs and missed the last eight games of the season. His status for next season is uncertain, as he could opt out of his contract and become a free agent, or he could miss a significant amount of time recovering from his injury.
George expressed confidence in Leonard’s commitment to the Clippers, stating his readiness for the upcoming season. He mentioned discussing with Leonard, noting his positive attitude and diligent knee rehabilitation. George eagerly anticipated reuniting with Leonard, emphasizing their shared determination to address unfinished business.
Clippers fans received George’s remarks with enthusiasm and hope, longing for the team’s breakthrough victory. Despite never reaching the NBA Finals, the Clippers demonstrated resilience and determination, notably advancing to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history. Despite a defeat to the Phoenix Suns in six games, the team’s perseverance through injuries and deficits was commendable.
Throughout the playoffs, George emerged as the Clippers’ leader and catalyst, averaging 26.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. His standout performances, such as a 41-point, 13-rebound, 6-assist display in Game 5 against the Suns, garnered widespread acclaim and respect from peers.
While proud of the team’s accomplishments, George expressed a desire for greater success in the upcoming season, aiming to guide the Clippers to a championship. He conveyed his determination and urged fans to support him in this pursuit.
