LIFELINE To Host Annual “Gift From The Heart”

Valentine’s Day is not just a day for romance and chocolates; it’s also a day to give back in a truly meaningful way. Lifeline Blood Services is hosting their Annual “Gift from the Heart” Blood Drive, and it’s your chance to make a difference. On Thursday, February 15, from 9am to 6pm, the Jackson Center at 183 Sterling Farms Drive will become a hub of generosity and community spirit.

Donors who roll up their sleeves will not only receive a donor t-shirt and a sweet treat from Two Sister’s Bakery, but they also have the chance to win fabulous prizes. Imagine a one night stay at DoubleTree Hotel, dinner for two at TWIST, a dozen red roses, dinner at Old Town Spaghetti Store, and stunning jewelry. But the real prize? Knowing you could save lives.

Melinda Reid, Marketing Manager with LIFELINE Blood Services, puts it perfectly: “LIFELINE wants YOU to be our Valentine! We invite you to give a gift from the heart and donate. You never know if you could be the one who will save the life of a friend or a family member!”

LIFELINE’s impact is vast, providing blood services to West Tennessee counties, hospitals, and numerous emergency services. With around 26,000 blood products collected annually, 75% of which are from mobile units, the need for donors is constant. The center also offers crucial reference lab and cross-matching services to healthcare facilities. To learn more, visit lifelinebloodserv.org.

The importance of blood donation has never been clearer. As the country faces a nationwide blood shortage, with the Red Cross declaring the lowest number of donors in 20 years, every single donation counts. In Tehachapi, a record-breaking Valentine’s Day blood drive saw 80 units of blood and 18 units of platelets and plasma donated, surpassing their previous best of 66 units. This is the kind of community effort that can turn the tide in the blood shortage crisis.

Donating blood is a powerful way to help burn victims, cancer patients, and many others in critical need. As Dillon Nunamaker from Houchin Community Blood Bank says, one donation can save up to three lives.

For those inspired to join this life-saving mission, information on upcoming blood drives can be found on the websites and social media of local blood services. Whether you’re a first-time donor or a seasoned giver, your contribution is invaluable.

So this Valentine’s Day, let’s spread love in the most impactful way possible. Join Lifeline Blood Services for the “Gift from the Heart” Blood Drive and be part of a community that cares. It’s an opportunity to give a gift that truly comes from the heart, one that could mean the world to someone in need. See you at the Jackson Center!
