Panama City Beach, a popular tourist destination known for its water-based activities, woke up to a scene of devastation on January 9, 2024. A tornado had touched down, causing extensive damage across the region. Some buildings were demolished, some were moved off their foundations, and others were even tilted to one side. Debris from the storm was strewn across parts of Panama City Beach.
Florida Panhandle underwent significant damage following the tornado. One video caught by a man showed debris littered through the streets and a tall building tilted on its side. ‘It’s kind of like a warzone down that street; oh my goodness take a look at that crooked house,’ the man who took the video can be heard saying. Despite the extensive damage, no injuries have been reported so far.
The tornado remains in effect across southeastern Alabama and through the Florida Panhandle into Georgia until 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. As the region grapples with the aftermath of the tornado, residents and visitors are urged to stay safe and stay informed.
