Volkswagen has just amped up the nostalgia with a modern twist, introducing the ID. Buzz GTX, a high-performance variant of its beloved microbus. This all-electric, all-wheel-drive powerhouse boasts a whopping 335 horsepower, making it the most potent ID. Buzz yet. The announcement follows the recent unveiling of the ID.3 GTX and ID.7 GTX, cementing the GTX brand as a symbol of Volkswagen’s commitment to sporty, top-of-the-line electric models.
Buzz GTX is not just about power; it’s also about practicality. With a dual-motor system, it offers all-wheel drive for the first time, alongside impressive charging speeds of up to 200 kilowatts. It’s a family hauler that doesn’t skimp on performance, capable of towing up to 4,000 pounds – double the rate of its single-motor counterpart. The vehicle’s towing prowess is complemented by the 4MOTION system, which ensures superior traction on challenging surfaces, making it ideal for towing boats or horse trailers.
Prospective buyers will have the choice between two wheelbase options. The standard-wheelbase version comes equipped with a 79-kilowatt-hour battery, while the long-wheelbase variant boasts an 86 kWh battery. Both are capable of rapid charging, allowing a boost from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes. While Volkswagen has kept mum on the range specifications, they’ve been generous with performance figures, stating that both versions can zip from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.5 seconds, with a top speed of 99 mph.
Buzz GTX is not just a powerhouse; it’s also a style icon. It features a newly designed bumper, a honeycomb intake grille, and is available in a striking Cherry Red paint job. Customers can choose from standard 19-inch wheels or opt for the flashier 21-inch alloys. Inside, the van is just as impressive, with larger touchscreens, an optional head-up display, and illuminated touch sliders for added convenience.
But the GTX is more than just a pretty face; it’s smart too. It comes with IDA voice assistance integrated with ChatGPT, and a Wellness app designed to enhance well-being during drives or charging sessions. Safety is also a top priority, with Volkswagen’s next-gen exit warning system alerting drivers to potential hazards when opening the door.
Buzz GTX is set to hit the European and UK markets this year, with pre-sales beginning in the summer. While the US will have to wait for this particular variant, the longer-wheel-base, rear-wheel-drive ID. Buzz will be making its way stateside later this year, marking the microbus’s first return to the US in over two decades.
Volkswagen is leading the way in electric mobility with style, power, and a nod to its iconic past. The ID. Buzz GTX is set to impress with its sleek design, impressive performance, and a tribute to the classic VW Microbus. With advanced technology and a focus on sustainability, Volkswagen is setting the standard for electric vehicles and showing a bright future for eco-friendly transportation.
